BigBlueButton

"Raise" is a status, so you can find the icon in the status menu.

Click on your own icon in the participant list and then select "Set status". The menu with the statuses is displayed.

No, BigBlueButton is always displayed in a browser. If you use a mobile device, BigBlueButton will always start in the default browser.

Use the public chat for this purpose. You can expand and collapse the public chat on the left side.

The BigBlueButton room is displayed in a browser tab. Close the tab with the "X".

  1. Left-click the icon of the person in the participants list with whom you want to chat privately.
  2. Then select "Start private chat".

1) Turn audio off; 2) Turn audio on

Click on the telephone receiver icon. The audio connection is terminated. Click the icon again to restart the audio connection. Click No on the echo test. You can then select another audio source.

Note: In Mozilla Firefox the selection of audio devices is not always displayed correctly.

1) Turn webcam off; 2) Turn webcam on

Disconnect the webcam and then reconnect it. You can then select an alternative webcam from the drop-down list.

Only if you have presentation rights: You will see the symbol "Share screen".

Click on the screen icon, then select which views you want to share. Depending on the browser, the selection is displayed differently.

If the "Share" or "Allow" button is grayed out, you have not yet made a selection.

If you are using safari the secondary window is not shown. Please use another browser.

In principle, BigBlueButton is usable with all browsers. However, it is possible that individual functions are not available or not available in the same way using Mozilla Firefox and Safari.

Due to this, we recommend using a Chromium-based browser (Google Chrome, Opera, Microsoft Edge). In the event of errors, please switch browsers.

Recommended connection values:

  • Download: min. 1 Mbit/s – ideally 5 Mbit/s
  • Upload: min. 0.5 MBit/s – ideally 1 MBit/s
  • Latency and Jitter: Smallest possible values
  • Connection to Router: LAN cable

You can test your Internet connection with the help of the Speedtests from Chip.de.

The interface is divided into three columns.

  • Left column
    Subscriber list and function call for the middle area and other functions. The area can be hidden.
  • Middle column
    Chat, notes, etc. are shown. The area can be hidden.
  • Right column
    Presentation area. With whiteboard or split screen view.

In the audio settings, "Listen only" was probably selected. You can see this by the headset icon at the bottom right of the user list. The person also sees a headset instead of a microphone icon in the functions.

Solution: Click on the headset icon to terminate the audio connection. Now click on the crossed-out microphone icon and select "Microphone".

If error 1007 occurs:

  • out going, TCP port 80 (http) and TCP port 443 (https)o
  • out going, UDP ports 16384 to 32768 (audio and video communication).

These ports must be open.

GoToMeeting

There is no icon for this in GoToMeeting. At the beginning you agree on the communication rules with the moderator. This is what defines how you can communicate.

Yes, you can share your screen with other participants. You can show a whole screen or a single application.

As a moderator
If you are a moderator, you can see the function by moving the cursor to the bottom of the screen. If you click on the screen icon, the dialog opens.

As a participant
The organizer or presenter appoints you as a presenter and sends you a request. You can then share your screen.

No, you can launch GoToMeeting as a web application. GoToMeeting will then be displayed in your browser.

Select the chat icon. In the pull-down menu "To", set the person and then click Send. Only this person will receive the chat message.

Important: If you want to send a message to all participants again, you have to set "All" again.

Select the "Setting" icon. In the settings you will see the pull-down menu for microphones. There, you can select a different webcam.

GoToWebinar

At the top right you will see a bar with a hand symbol. If you click on it, the hand symbol will be displayed next to your name in the list of participants. Only the organizer and the presenter will see the list of participants.

No, you can launch GoToWebinar in a browser.

Open the Questions section in the control panel. There you can ask your question. Only the organizer and the presenter can see the questions. If the presenter answers in writing, he can make the answer visible only to you or to all participants.

As a participant you can only contact the moderator.

After the individual event, you will receive a link to a video call. There you can still exchange ideas with other participants and the speaker.

For GoToWebinar you do not need a webcam, because as a participant you cannot start the webcam.

Technology and Tool

'tekom live', 'my conference tool' and the virtual rooms can be viewed on the smartphone or tablet.

In the case of virtual rooms, the range of functions in the mobile version is limited. For GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar, apps for iOS and Android are available.

BigBlueButton uses the default browser of your mobile device.

BigBlueButton - Internet Connection Check

Use the speed test of Chip.de to test your internet connection

Recommended connection values:

  • Download: min. 1 Mbit/s – ideally 5 Mbit/s

  • Test the access using the workstation and PC that you also use for the meeting.
  • Note the system requirements for participation.
  • Update the browser you want to use.
  • Allow cookies from third-party providers.
  • As a speaker a LAN connection to your router is recommended.
  • If you have a poor Internet connection, it is best to use a LAN connection to your router.
  • If you would like to participate in meetups and workshops and exchange ideas at the exhibition and Café tekom, test your audio and video in advance.
  • Use a headset for interactive event formats, the exhibition and visiting Café tekom.
  • Check if your PC meets the system requirements.

Different virtual rooms will be used for the meeting and exhibition. You can enter any of the virtual rooms by following the system requirements below. If you have problems in a virtual room, please refer to the specific system requirements.

Operating System

All operating systems are possible for the browser versions of the virtual rooms.

Download the GoToWebinar or GoToMeeting desktop app:

  • Windows 7 to Windows 10
  • Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) – macOS Catalina (10.15)

Hardware

  • 4 GB RAM (recommended) – 2 GB RAM (min.)
  • Webcam for meetups, workshops, Café tekom, video calls after individual conference events and in the showrooms
  • Microphone and loudspeakers (USB headset recommended)

Browser

The latest versions of:

  • Microsoft Edge (min. v77)
  • Mozilla Firefox (min. 34)
  • Google Chrome (min. 39 = older version activate JavaScript)

Cookies

  • Allow cookies from third-party providers.
  • In corporate networks, the network server must also allow the cookies.
  • If you want to limit the domains, it is necessary to allow cookies for the following domains:
    tekom.de
    tekom.org
    tekom.12bis3.de
    goto domains (Domains from GoToWebinar, GoToMeeting)

Adblocker

In the adblocker make an exception for the domains: tekom.de, tekom.org, tekom.12bis3.de

Website Tracking (BigBlueButton with Safari)

The safari browser is not recommended. If you still need to use the browser, you must allow website tracking.

In Settings > Privacy uncheck the checkbox of "Website Tracking".

Internet Connection

1 Mbit/s or more (broadband recommended)

Software

For GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar, you can download a desktop app. This is especially necessary for speakers.

  • Test the access to the different virtual rooms in advance. For this purpose, use the workstation and PC that you also use for the meeting.
  • If necessary, contact your IT department. This is because the firewall in your company network may be blocking virtual room functions.
  • If you want to limit the domains, you must allow cookies for the following domains:
    tekom.de
    tekom.org
    tekom.12bis3.de
    goto domains (Domains from GoToWebinar, GoToMeeting)
  • You can start all virtual rooms in the browser. It is not necessary to download any file.

1 Mbit/s or more (broadband recommended)

'tekom live', 'my conference tool' and the conference website are linked together. Single sign-on allows you to switch from one area to another without barriers.

'tekom live' is the virtual conference and exhibition platform.
From the entrance hall you enter the conference, the showrooms, Café tekom and the tekom NetworkingLounge. 'tekom live' is open during the conference. The showrooms are staffed during this time. After the conference, you can still download documents and view recorded exhibitors presentations in the showrooms.

'my conference tool' – Internal Area of the Conference Website

'my conference tool' is the internal area of the conference website; login is required. On the page 'my conference tool' you will find your personal conference program, as a speaker your submitted contributions, and as an exhibitor further functions.

This is the official conference page for the conference. You will find all information about the conference here. The conference page also contains the conference program and here you can find the recordings after the conference.
