Managing Domain-Specific Terminology in ASD-STE100: A Practical Workshop for Technical Communicators
Contents
Applying ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English (STE) across specific domains often requires the use of specialized terms (technical nouns and verbs) that are not included in the controlled dictionary of the Standard. This workshop offers a practical, hands-on approach to terminology management for domain-specific content. Participants will learn how to extract relevant terms from documentation, classify them by domain, and create terminological entries that follow the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and obey the related rules of STE. Tools such as FAIRterm—developed by the University of Padova—and other CAT-integrated or standalone systems will be explored. The session is designed for technical communicators, translators, and anyone working with controlled natural languages who needs to manage custom terminology while ensuring clarity and compliance.
