2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the publication of “The Nurnberg Funnel: Designing Minimalist Instruction for Practical Computer Skill” — the book that introduced the concept of minimalism. In this talk, Dr. John Carroll, the author of the “The Nurnberg Funnel” will join me to discuss the book and the origins of minimalism. In addition, we will discuss principles, benefits, misconceptions, and the state of minimalism today.

John M. Carroll is Distinguished Professor of Information Sciences & Technology at Penn State. His research is in methods & theory in human-computer interaction, particularly as applied to Internet tools for collaborative learning and problem solving, and design of interactive information systems.
