Contents

In this session, we will explore and discuss the perspectives of quality management and the role of standards in the era of AI-supported multimodal content delivery. The growing complexity of quality management will be illustrated through the evolution of quality management standards – from the general ISO 9000 family of standards to more specialized standards that address the need to measure translation quality, achieve compatibility of file exchange formats, and define requirements for translation resources and translation project management. This journey will lead us to the extensive portfolio of today's ISO and ASTM standards.

We will explain the guidance and inspiration found in today's standards, including examples. The subsequent discussion will offer a deep dive into questions such as “Which standards should we care about?”, “How do we define quality from the perspective of the customer?”, and “How can we be sure that the required quality is delivered?”

Takeaways

The audience will receive a structured overview of standards that are important for designing and implementing a modern quality management framework, including historical context. Presenters will share insights into the latest ISO and ASTM standards published in 2023 and 2024, detailing commonalities, differences, and relationships between standards that address the same or similar topics (e.g., ISO 11669-2024 and ASTM F2575-23).

The audience will also learn:

  • Which sections and guidelines are important for setting up translation project parameters.
  • How to perform a risk assessment.
  • How to define quality specifications in collaboration between Buyers and Service Providers.
  • How to set up a quality measurement framework.

The discussion will clarify specific questions and explore particular use-cases brought up by the audience.
